Web projects can be broken
into 4 main sections: Discover, Define, Design and Build.
Keeping good communication is key for success.
Communications have to be in both directions, from the Sponsor
to the PM and back. In addition gathering requirements and
the ability to track man hours are essential for the
relationship; they are both dependant from each other. Tools
like Microsoft Project, Team Foundation Server, Source Safe,
Sharepoint are great tools to track progress and
accountability.
A good rule of thumb is for the PM not be involved in
coding. Being submerged in code and management at the same
time is not a good practice.
A kickoff meeting to present all resources involved is a
great start to any project. Daily status emails,
weekly meetings, and face to face conversations will ensure
the smooth progress of any project.
